Be opened

Released in May 2023, Ephata· from the Aramaic word “be opened”, spoken by Christ, confirms the Cantiamo Choir's signature: sacred polyphony for mixed voices, hymns made for the liturgy and the concert hall.

Fifteen pieces converse here: Baptisés du Seigneur, the Angelus de Saint-Ambroise, Marie, mère de mon cœur in its long unfolding of over seven minutes, and Divin mystère as a contemplative climax. The album is heard as a journey, from awakening to the sending forth.

The recording took place in April 2023 in Meung-sur-Loire (Loiret), directed by the composer, with sound engineering by Vicken Khatcherian; the solos are entrusted to Martha and Clément. Like the first record, Ephata is written to be taken up: each hymn exists to serve a congregation's prayer as much as a concert programme.

“My life has been marked by painful and joyful moments. That is where I wrote best.” · Pierre-Arnaud Destremau
